Our Story

Our love story began in Buffalo, back in 2019. We were invited to the wedding of our mutual friends, Liane and Seth, and sat next to each other at the reception. We struck up a conversation, hit it off, danced all night, and met up the next day for lunch and a walk by the canal.

After that brief meeting, Christian returned to New York City and Sonya went back to Montreal, but we both knew we had found something special. We kept in touch over video calls, and soon decided to give a long distance relationship a chance. Visiting back and forth from Montreal to New York City was great, and we made lots of memories together.

Then, the pandemic hit, and we were separated by the border closure for three months. We decided that we never wanted to be separated again, and got engaged while still parted. Finally, in June 2020, Sonya was able to make it to the US, and we got married in an outdoor civil ceremony on July 8, 2020. It was the happiest day of our lives, and now we’re so thankful to be able to have our marriage blessed, and celebrate with all of our loved ones. We hope you can make it, and we can’t wait for this exciting new chapter to begin!

FAQ

Yes!

Technically, it is a convalidation of marriage. We will be having a ceremony to have our marriage blessed, followed by a dinner and dance reception.

Because that seems a lot easier than explaining what a convalidation is every time we need to tell someone about it, book vendors, etc.

Nope! I’ve chosen to keep my name as is, both for professional reasons and because I hate doing paperwork.
